Guiding thoughts

June 29, 2012

Getting older is a mixed bag….good and bad…..rewarding and frustrating…..beautiful and droopy….wise and foolish.    We have many choices in how to be with the changes, in how to adapt.  We encounter many situations where we can apply our wisdom and experience.

The message today is a reminder for you to be aware of what works for you, your guiding principles.   Recognize and appreciate the wisdom you have accrued.

Here are some examples that showed up for me on a fun day of shopping yesterday:
Know what suites you.

I saw many cute things that would have been just the thing if I was 25 – not so                           much right now.  There are colors and styles that are more flattering for me, so  why waste time on stuff that doesn’t?

Take advantage of opportunities when they show up.
That great pair of shoes on sale; something unexpected, but just the right                                     thing?  Items like this at least merit some consideration – keeping in mind the next principle.

Remember the “pause button.”
Keep using good judgment.  Don’t rush, take some time, and put the credit card                             away for a while.   Step away and see if the desire for the item persists, makes sense, fits with other things you have, other goals.

These are principles to keep in mind when shopping.   Where else might they prove useful?

What guiding principles do you use, have you developed for yourself?
